Over the past years,
Hannamari Jalovaara has been spinning her tales of myth and magic
that relate not only to her own life experiences, but have an uncanny
connection with the lives and histories of universal humanity. Influenced
deeply by her Nordic heritage, but not without the unmistakable
shadows of traditions and iconography gleaned during her time spent
in Europe, Canada and the Far East, the artist has created a lexicon
of symbols and characters which engage the viewer in story-telling
episodes vaguely familiar, yet somehow exotic within the framework
of our Western library of fairy and folk lore.
Throughout the entire body of her work, there remains a sense of
a world reimagined, or redefined, where rules previously laid out
for us bear little relationship to the alchemy that defines and
guides this magical world.
Hannamari Jalovaara's work has been exhibited internationally,
and is included in both public and private collections. She is a
member of the Society of Finnish Graphic Artists, Helsinki Artists'
Association, GEDOK – Brandenburg, Germany, the Federation
of Canadian Artists (Active Status) and Malaspina Printmakers Society,
Vancouver, Canada.
